It's Personal.
Founded in 2018, Virginia BioAnalytics is a startup company with the vision of transforming personalized care for kidney disease. Our members have more than a decade of experience working in transplant centers and the healthcare industry. Located in the junction of some of the best transplant centers in the country and the Federal Government, we strive to apply our technical skills and passion for advocacy to expand the culture and practice of personalized medicine for kidney disease. We do not sit behind tables: we have been in surgery rooms observing new surgical techniques; we have sat in waiting rooms and talked to organ recipients and donors; we have celebrated and mourned transplant outcomes. This is why kidney disease is personal to us.
What are we doing?
Our team is stationed in kidney transplant centers of University of Toledo Medical Center and University at Buffalo the State University of New York. We plan to recruit 50 kidney transplant patients within 2 years in order to collect blood samples for gene sequencing and stool samples for gut microbiome sequencing. We have completed 50% of the recruitment process and we continuously receive sequenced data from our pipeline. Our team is comprised of data scientists, AI engineers, kidney transplant surgeons, microbiologists and geneticists. We aim to use the collected data to built and test an AI-assisted personalized medicine model for predicting optimum therapeutic immunosuppressive dose and delivering a personalized diet program for transplant recipients. Our plan is to apply the model in a clinical trial at the end of the second year and publish our results. Additionally, we are developing the first personalized AI-based support system for live kidney donors and transplant coordinators to facilitate informed decision making for potential donors and promote live donation across the country.
